Anna's Pond

On Wednesday we decided to spend our day at home in Waimea.  In the early afternoon, we hiked from the house into the hills and ravines above Waimea.  We really wanted Craig and Jenna to see a location known locally as Anna's Pond.  It's a secluded, pretty spot with a series of water falls and fresh water ponds with a main pond known as Anna's.

Allison and I continued swimming while the others went exploring upstream.  Thirty minutes later, Craig came back with a big smile on his face and told us that we just had to come and see what they had found.  Further upstream, they found a larger pond with a big cascading waterfall with mists that generated rainbows across the falls.  There was also a rope which was somehow fastened to a tree way up the cliff face by some brave soul.  We were able to climb part way up the cliff, grab the rope and swing out in front of the falls and into the pond below.  It was so much fun and only walking distance from the house.

We had a wonderful afternoon hiking and playing in the wilderness right close to the town of Waimea.  We had supper at the house that evening and then, with a heavy heart, we drove Craig to the airport to catch his late flight back to Kingston.  We miss you already, Craig.
