On Thursday morning, Ann, Craig and I went for a jog around town. In the afternoon, the girls went out to investigate the little shops in town while Craig and I set off to conquer the huge hill over looking the town of Waimea. There was a very strong NE wind and so we climbed the SW side of the hill. When we reached the summit at 1055 m (3461 ft) the wind almost knocked us over. We edged forward, keeping close to the ground to a 2 ft concrete post which may have served as a base for a flag pole years ago. We took turns posing for photos while holding onto the concrete, with the wind trying to send us back down the hill.

That night, Craig made us an awesome quiche for supper and then a very tired family went to bed early.

Making guacamole with the avocados from our yard
Friday morning it was raining but we were really hoping to go hiking in Waipio Valley. The weather forecast for that area was for clear conditions and so we drove the 25 minutes to the valley lookout. Sadly, it was pouring rain when we arrived and it did not look like it would ever stop. We decided to just get our beach clothes at the house and spend the day at our favorite beach. And so, that is what we did. It's always nice at the beach. We had a pleasant day snorkeling, building moat encircled sand castles and eating specially prepared beach peanut butter and jam sandwiches and chips with guacamole made from avocados picked from our yard.

This is proof that Ann got into the water. She even went snorkeling with me.
I was amused while watching my BIG kids building sand castles while smaller children with excited eyes and shy smiles would ease their way into asking if they could help. Of course, my children enlisted their help and it was cute to see kids ranging in age from 4 years to *20 years* working/playing together.
Late that afternoon, we had planned on barbequing the steak in the fridge and making some nice salads and side dishes. Ann and I went to the grocery store to pick up a few things. Part way through our shopping trip, we looked at each other and both said at the same time that we were way too tired to start cooking and so, we picked up some pizza on the way home. The kids were so happy to see that pizza when we got home which confirmed that we had made the right choice. We'll have steaks on Christmas Eve instead.
